Founded in 2021 by Angie West and Alberto Vélez, Refractory is a furniture, lighting and objects brand working closely with its sister company West Supply, a foundry and glassworks atelier of thirty-eight crew members based in Chicago. With a devotion to enduring craftsmanship and innovation, Refractory crafts pieces exclusively by hand in its workshop or in close collaboration with local partners. Layering traditional methods with modern and digital tools, Refractory is both an evolution and an extension of a community of artisans who seek to create in the space where functional art meets collectible design.
